People watching is one of my lessons for me in the habits and tribal
habits of the two-legged. I was looking at the group of daily
walkers coming through my neighborhood and what each person did and
how often the group stopped to look at the birds in the local creek
or pond. The habits people follow are almost route. The same people
looked at the same pond and stream, while others in the group
watched the birds and their nests. Another group looked at the
flowers and each commented on their particular interest with much
energy. The same goes for the morning commuters. there are those
with a cell phone to their ear, some with a starbucks coffee at hand
and still others putting on make-up. It is usually the same ones
each day that did the same thing. I am limited in my motions from
side to side and the people who invade the crosswalk waiting for the
light to change are the same ones each day. The same few pull back
when the see me crossing the street and others pull forward to make
me walk behind their car. Now what is interesting about the drivers
is, if there is a police car about, almost all drivers are model
participants in the rules of the road and none have made the
slightest inclination to infringe on the pedestrians rights of
passage or breaking the rules of the road they break everyday,
showing they are consciously breaking laws and rules of the road.
When I spent time in the forests at the local state parks, it seems
the same rules of conduct appear, those who are law abiding, either
natures laws or mans, tend to follow those laws and the others are
the abusers of man and nature. All too often people leave their
common sense at home when they leave their homes and become more
wild than the wild members of earth. Think about it, which are you?
